Monochrome

This series, while perhaps most obviously about color, is also about exploring nuance and moving closer to get a different view. We are often told to step back in order to see the full picture, but sometimes moving in gives more useful information. Being close means being open to finding hidden gems, knowing that our experience may be completely different than someone else’s, and celebrating subtle as well as great differences. Using a standard sheet of archival paper, I start by picking the main color, mix the first of many variations on that hue, and begin building rows. The process is slow, which allows me to shift and change the piece incrementally. It becomes a bit of a conversation and a bit of a dance as line by line, row by row, the painting comes in to itself.
